Keep Vestavia Green, Inc. primary mission and goal is to ensure a high quality residential life for citizens of Vestavia Hills. Additionally, Keep Vestavia Green will strive to preserve the intrinsic value of the city specifically the natural green buffer areas and wildlife in these green areas. It is our goal to help maintain Vestavia Hills residential property value and enhance public awareness of the importance of these ideas. The corporation will work to improve the quality of life and enhance the well being of all neighborhoods. The corporation will work to preserve green areas as a natural resource and to preserve Vestavia Hills image as a great place to live, work and raise a family. The corporation’s goal is to promote careful and coordinated long range planning for the safety and welfare of all citizens of Vestavia.

Boulder Canyon Nature Trail

Keep Vestavia Green is working with the City to facilitate the acquisition of the Wald Estate property at Round Hill Road and Highway 31. This area is more commonly known as “The Boulder Canyon Nature Trail”. Including this area in the Vestavia Hills parks system, will insure that the property will remain a natural, green area. The Park and Recreation Board has recognized the importance of this park and has passed a resolution supporting this project. This park will greatly enhance the quality of life, not only for the present citizens but for future generations. Reasons for acquiring this land are as follows:

Aesthetics: Vestavia Hills is blessed with the most beautiful and unique area of any city Over The Mountain, and this gem should be preserved. This park will enhance the natural beauty that makes Vestavia Hills special.
Environment and Conservation: This land is being conserved to provide watershed protection, to maintain flood control, to protect trees, improve air quality, and to save plant and animal habitat. Every community needs a balance of natural areas and development.
Recreation: Walking trails are an important recreational resource and a place for observing nature, for quiet contemplation and spiritual nourishment, and for psychological well-being. These scenic trails will also provide exercise for citizens and children who are not interested in or able to participate in organized sports.
Education: This property is located adjacent to Vestavia Hills Elementary Central School and serves as part of the school’s Nature Trail, Use of the outdoor classroom supports the science curriculum. It has been proven that children learn more from hands-on experience, and this area provides opportunities for students to observe Boulder Creek Canyon in a pristine setting while studying birds, wild flowers, trees, shrubs and conservation.
